How to Reach Uttarkashi in the Fastest Way Possible

Uttarkashi town, the district headquarters of Uttarkashi district, is situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. As the district headquarters, there may be times when you need to reach Uttarkashi urgently. Below are the two ways you can reach Uttarkashi in the fastest way possible.

Air Travel with Road Journey

The Dehradun to Chinyalisaur helicopter flight was launched on February 8, 2020. This service was made operational by the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN) scheme.¹

Heritage Aviation offers chopper services from Sahastradhara Helipad twice daily. Tickets can be booked online at airheritage.in and there are around 7 seats in the Heli. The flights are scheduled at 10 AM and 4:30 PM, with tickets costing INR 3000 + GST. The flight takes approximately 35 minutes to reach Chinyalisaur, providing bird’s eye views of Doon Valley, Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, Chinyalisaur, the Saraswati Ranges, and the Gangotri Ranges.

After landing at Chinyalisaur, you will have to cover the rest of the distance via road. Uttarkashi is around 40 km away from Chinyalisaur, and it takes about an hour to cover the distance. You will easily find local taxis for Uttarkashi. The total time to reach Uttarkashi via this way will take 1:30 hours to 2:30 hours.

Overnight Road Journey

If you are limited on budget and need to reach Uttarkashi by the next morning, you can opt for an overnight journey with press vehicles.

Every night, press vehicles depart from Dehradun to Uttarkashi to supply newspapers. Several Boleros leave Laal Pul Chowk around 11 PM. They will pick you up, go to Selaqui to collect newspapers, and then proceed to Uttarkashi. Typically, travelers arrive in Uttarkashi by 6 AM. While the ride can be cramped due to the newspaper bundles, it is a viable budget-friendly option. Locals often use this method when they need to reach Uttarkashi quickly.
