Panch Kedar is a popular pilgrimage in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand that involves visiting five sacred temples of Lord Shiva, namely Kedarnath, Madhmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpnath (Kalpeshwar) Temple.

The formation of these sites is rooted in a mythological story. The Pandavas went to Lord Shiva to atone their sins, but on seeing them Shiva took the form of a bull, disappeared and emerged at five different places in the Himalayas.

Each of these temples represents a specific aspect:

  • Kedarnath symbolizes the hump,
  • Madhmaheshwar represents the navels,
  • Tungnath represents the arms,
  • Rudranath depicts the face, and
  • Kalpeshwar signifies hair.

Here is all the information you need to know about the Panch Kedar Yatra for 2026.

Thank you for these information. We two friends re planning to visit panch Kedar from may 19th with out any support from agency. Just wanted to find out that how is the situation of transportation from base of one temple to another. Is it available or do we have to book cab/ jeep from Guptakashi to end of all
fifth temple and back to Guptakashi/ Haridwar? Pls advice. Thank you.

      Hi Neha,

Public transportation in this region is quite limited, especially when traveling between smaller villages and trek bases. While you can take a bus or shared taxi from Rishikesh to Sonprayag and complete your Kedarnath Yatra, finding a cab from Sonprayag to Ransi for just two people can be quite difficult.

A similar challenge arises after completing Madhmaheshwar — getting a direct ride from Ransi to Chopta (for the Tungnath trek) is rarely possible via public transport.

To avoid delays and hassle, it’s best to book a cab in advance for your entire Yatra route. We have our own fleet of vehicles and would be happy to assist you. You can contact Sobhi Negi at +91 80896 93825 for bookings or more details.

      Hope this helps! Safe travels.
